The Story Behind HPA
I (Zach) began my career as a massage therapist in 2005. Soon after, I decided to specialize in natural pain relief services, and obtained advanced certifications in medical massage, posture and exercise therapy. Since then, I’ve helped thousands of clients in their 50s, 60s, 70s and older to fix the underlying causes of their pains and improve their mobility. My success with clients has resulted in being voted Best of WNC Massage Therapist seven years in a row (2012-2018).
Over the years, I searched for places where I could send my clients to help them safely transition from pain relief services into whole-body fitness, without aggravating their pains or other limitations. However, there is an unfortunate shortage of fitness professionals who specialize in working with mature clients. There are even fewer gyms, studios and fitness centers that offer a welcoming, fun, uplifting and non-intimidating environment for those who would like to exercise among peers. As a result, my search was largely unsuccessful.
Because I’ve searched on behalf of my clients, I understand how hard it can be to find the guidance and accountability you need to sustain a well-rounded approach to your fitness through the years, especially if you struggle with pain, injury, weight gain, fatigue, or more serious medical conditions. That’s why I finally decided to create the kind of fitness studio I had, for years, wished I could send my clients to help them continue to get in better shape, once they no longer needed to simply address their pain.
My next big steps were to obtain additional certifications as a Functional Aging Specialist, NASM Personal Trainer, and Exercise Nutrition Coach. From there, I began to take the accumulation of my knowledge and professional experience and use it to develop the philosophies, principles and frameworks for what I decided to call “a lifestyle of High Performance Aging.”
As an aspirational term, High Performance Aging refers to a mindset that embraces the exciting potential for never-ending growth and improved well-being, and a body and spirit that express vigor, strength, joy, stamina, creativity and purpose at every stage of life. As a business, High Performance Aging, LLC (HPA) is a fitness, nutrition, and wellness coaching center that focuses on helping you reduce pain and injury, increase energy and strength, lose weight, improve flexibility, and develop a healthy fitness lifestyle that you can sustain throughout the second half of life.
At HPA we work with you to achieve levels of fitness that align with your personal health and lifestyle goals. We do our best to help you overcome the mental and emotional roadblocks— such as lack of self-confidence, fear of injury and uncertainty about what you should and shouldn’t do— that may be keeping you from reaching your full potential and transforming your body and well-being. In short, we help you stay accountable to creating the quality of life you really want.
